Janet Guthrie interview
The interview was broadcast on NPR on May 23 2018. When Janet Guthrie says she knows engines, it is an understatement. Before racing at INDY Janet raced a Jaguar XK140 for years in SCCA and she did ALL the work on the car. Janet graduated from the University of Michigan in 1960 with a B.Sc. in physics. She joined Republic Aviation in Farmingdale, New York, as a research and development engineer, working on programs that were precursors to Project Apollo. In 1964, she applied for the first Scientist-Astronaut program, and got through the first round of eliminations.

The Wrens - Come Back My Love

Come Back My Love was recorded on November 21, 1954 on the Rama lable. According to wiki: The Wrens began in the Morrisania section of the Bronx in 1950. Neighborhood friends Waldo Champen (tenor, usually referred to as "Champ Rollow"), Francis "Frenchie" Concepcion (tenor/baritone lead), Archangel "Archie" Oropeza (baritone), and Raoul McLeod (bass) sang together under this name for around two...
Bela Babai - Palm Road

From the Gypsy Moods album by Bela Babai King of the Gypsy violin. This is a much higher quality upload than my previous one of Palm Road from April 2011 and I will delete the earlier one soon. The ealier one was created with a very cheap ION USB Turntable which had a very noticable rumble to it. This one was created with a Sansui belt drive turntable with a much better cartridge.

Louie Bellson - I remember April

This is a vehicle for the Tenor Sax of Zoot Sims. I ripped this from an album I bought about 50 years ago and it was in pretty bad shape so I had to spend a total of about 8 hours painstakingly restoring the music in increments of about 50 thousanths of a second. At times I felt like I was restoring the Shroud of Turin. I hope you enjoy the result.

Charlie Shavers - The Man I love

When talking about Charlie Shavers it's easy to run out of adjectives. Certainly one of the best trumpet players who ever lived. He can take a brassy instrument associated with waking soldiers up at 6AM and make it almost talk. The way he bends notes is so sexy it's like making love to a woman. At other times his blazing finger work and power will have you holding your breath.
Louie Bellson - Concerto For Drums

Mr Bellson starts off this drum solo with what are known as "Jingle Sticks" (a set of tamborine cymbals placed on the drum sticks). About halfway through the cut he switches to regular sticks, see if you can spot the switch.
Cleaning old vinyl records

This is an example of just how much scratches, clicks, and pops you can remove from an old record without losing any part of the original sound using Audacity software. The first half of the cut is the original sound as it comes right off a dirty old album. The second half is the result of literally washing the record with a sponge with dish detergent and careful rinsing avoiding the label. The...
Terry Fell - Don't Drop It

Fell started his record career in 1945 as a member of Billy Hughes band. His first record was with Hughes on Fargo Records. He then began his solo career for Cortney and 4 Star Records, although none of his singles were hits there. During his first session for RCA in Hollywood, he recorded a song that would become a hit. Although the A-side, "Don't Drop It", was underplayed, the B-side, "Truck ...
